The Wishart Lunch 


 
 


This year we will be back at the Doric Tavern Bistro, Edinburgh for our Wishart Lunch   (pictured below) in Edinburgh's Old Town. Some may recall our visits there in 2005 and 2006, after which we decided on a change. However, in 2007 the Doric was bought by Michael O'Sullivan, and we have been favourably impressed by the changes he has made. You can find reviews and sample menus

The dining room at the Doric Tavern Bistro, 15 Market Street, Edinburgh


The Doric Tavern is at 15 Market Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1DE (pictured above) in the heart of the historic Old Town, a few yards from Waverley Station and the Airport Bus terminus.

The 2009 Wishart Lunch is on Wednesday 11th November. We will meet at about 12 noon, departing at around 3 pm. If anyone is interested in combining lunch with family research at the Scottish Genealogy Society, please contact us and we can sign you in as guests if necessary. The Doric Tavern is about 5 minutes walk from Edinburgh Castle, and also about the same distance from Princes Street.

The lunch should cost around £16 for three courses, as illustrated below. In fact this menu was proposed for the Wishart event by Michael O'Sullivan and will be used on the day, subject to availability of seasonal ingredients. The price does not include drinks or coffee but both are available as extras. If you really want to splash out, we can warmly recommend the lobster linguine which is prepared with fresh lobster (£6 supplement).

Starters
Soup of the day served with fresh local bread
Haggis filo parcels with a Glayva crème fraiche
Seafood terrine in a saffron jelly
Steamed mussels in a garlic, white wine & cream sauce

Main Courses
Breast of chicken stuffed with ricotta cheese, wrapped in parma ham & served with caramelised shallots, gratin dauphinoise potatoes and a sherry jus
6oz ribeye steak with a forestière garnish
Pan fried sea bass served with saffron boulangere potatoes, chargrilled peppers & basil oil
Asparagus risotto with fresh parmesan & basil oil
Creamy lobster linguine finished with truffle oil & fresh parmesan (£6 supp.)

Desserts
White chocolate crème brulée
Sticky toffee pudding
Cheesecake of the day
Selection of fine cheeses (£2 supp.)
